CUTOFF Date Approaches

Meek’s Cutoff is the brand new feature film from director Kelly Reichardt. Set in 1845 during the earliest days of the Oregon Trail, a wagon team of three families has hired the mountain man Stephen Meek (played by Bruce Greenwood) to guide them over the Cascade Mountains. Claiming to know a short cut, Meek leads the group on an unmarked path across the high plain desert, only to become lost in the dry rock and sage. Over the coming days, the emigrants must face the scourges of hunger, thirst and their own lack of faith in each other’s instincts for survival.

SHIRLEY HENDERSON stars as ‘Glory White’ – opposite Michelle Williams – in what critics are describing as “a precious American masterwork” (-Philip Concannon, The Skinny).

After a run of extremely successful screenings at various international film festivals (including Venice, Toronto, New York, London and Sundance), this much-hyped film has already received strong praise from critics and has generated a big buzz across the film world:

“Dramatically restrained, unabashedly political.”
– Manohla Dargis, New York Times

Meek’s Cutoff is a real movie-movie, with star performances and literal life-or-death stakes.”
– Karina Longworth, Village Voice

“Austere. Visually-stunning. Extraordinarily textured.”
– Karina Longworth, LA Weekly

“a meticulously-constructed piece of art.”
– Matt Mazur, Pop Matters

“Intriguing and beautiful.”
– Owen Van Spall, Eye For Film

“Some kind of masterpiece. Undeniably a fascinatingly idiosyncratic, aesthetically provocative, and occasionally enthralling vision.“
– Kenji Fujishima, Slant Magazine

“Films like this don’t come along very often so we urge you to seek it out.”
– The Playlist

Meek’s Cutoff is released in UK cinemas on 15th April 2011. For more information you can visit the official website but in the meantime, here’s the trailer:
