Totally RANDOM

The brand new Channel 4 and Film 4 feature random, starring NADINE MARSHALL, will air next Tuesday 23rd August at 10pm on Channel 4.

Set over the course of one day, random is a touching and profound story that follows an ordinary family’s daily routine which is shattered by one random act.

random first began as a play written by critically-acclaimed writer/director debbie tucker green, which debuted to great success at the Royal Court in 2008. NADINE MARSHALL starred in the original production (left); a one-woman show in which she played all the different roles of a black British London family going about their business on a spring morning, until their lives are transformed by a devastating event. Nadine received fantastic reviews across the board for her stunning performance.

debbie tucker green has now adapted her play for the screen and random marks her feature film directorial debut. Nadine also returns to narrate the film and star in the leading role.

Over the summer, Channel 4 and Film 4 have been working on a new way of screening films direct to grass-roots audiences before they are broadcast on television or in theatres. For random, they have organised a series of free pop-up screenings, premiering the film in unconventional settings such as parks, pubs, barber-shops, hairdressers, community centres, festivals and other informal meeting places in London, Glasgow and Birmingham, before its broadcast on Channel 4 next Tuesday. random will then receive its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.

The film and Nadine’s performance have already been receiving rave reviews.

“Nadine Marshall superbly anchors debbie tucker green’s tense urban drama…” Time Out

“Sometimes a little imagination and one mesmerising central performance is enough. … The result is a drama that embraces its stage origins during the economical, claustrophobic monologues, while opening out the action to great effect when the narrative demands it… As timely as it is vividly imagined and affectingly performed.” Time Out

“tucker green’s play was innovative and unsettling at the Royal Court in 2008, and remains so on the small screen… Marshall carries out this initially baffling construction with skill, convincingly inhabiting every character…” Radio Times

“…Gripping drama…” TV Choice

Make sure you tune in to Channel 4 next Tuesday and don’t miss this brilliant and innovative film which has got everyone talking! You can visit the random website for more information plus a full list of screening dates and venues.
