Pride is a heartwarming, moving, poignant and hilarious new British drama film written by Stephen Beresford, directed by Matthew Warchus and released in UK cinemas next Friday 12th September.
The film, which stars HH client JOSEPH GILGUN, was first screened as part of the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm award. Based on a true story, Pride depicts a group of LGBT activists who raised money to help families affected by the UK miners’ strike in Thatcher’s 1984 Britain, at the outset of what would become the “Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners” campaign. The National Union of Mineworkers was reluctant to accept the group’s support due to the union’s PR worries about being openly associated with a gay group, so the activists instead decided to take their donations directly to a small mining village in Wales — resulting in an unlikely alliance between the two communities.
Pride is impassioned, warm and witty and explores themes on the unfashionable subjects of empathy and solidarity, with terrific performances from a brilliant cast. JOSEPH plays Mike, one of the passionate LGBT activists who descend on the Welsh mining village to lend support. Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy and Paddy Considine also star.
Make sure you see this on the big screen next weekend – it really is awesome! Here’s the trailer:
