The closing ceremony of the week-long 14th Pyongyang International Film Festival (PIFF) was held this week at the Ponghwa Art Theatre in the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and German war film My Beautiful Country, starring ZRINKA CVITESIC, won the festival’s top award, the Torch Award.

My Beautiful Country is a moving love story in a time of hatred; a stunning film that portrays how the Kosovo War affected both Serbians and Albanians, echoing the war and peace theme. ZRINKA stars in the leading role of young Serbian widow Danica who, during Kosovo’s civil war, falls in love with Ramiz, a Albanian soldier. Wounded in battle, he seeks refuge in Danica’s home on the Serbian side of the River Ibar.

More than 90 films were screened during the Pyongyang festival, including pictures from the DPRK, China, Germany, the United Kingdom and India, all competing for the Torch Award. Huge congratulations to ZRINKA and everyone involved with the production of the film!
