A brand new stage adaptation of celebrated playwright and Nobel prize-winner Eugene O’Neill’s iconic piece of American drama The Hairy Ape opens at London’s Old Vic Theatre this weekend – Saturday 17th October – starring Olivier Award-winning HH client BERTIE CARVEL in the lead role.
A timeless story of class and identity, The Hairy Ape tells the story of Yank, played by BERTIE, a labourer who revels in his status as the strongest stoker on a transatlantic ocean liner. But when Yank is called a ‘filthy beast’ by the overbred daughter of a steel merchant, he experiences an awakening of consciousness that leads him on a journey through the wealthy neighbourhoods and disenfranchised underbelly of New York society. Searching for a way to belong, Yank is forced to confront primal questions about his true place in the world.
Directed by the acclaimed, multi-award-winning director Richard Jones, the show opens at the Old Vic this weekend for a limited run until 21st November. We urge you to get your tickets asap as they’re selling like hot cakes! See all dates and book your tickets here.
BERTIE has most recently appeared as the fantastically odious Simon in BBC One’s Doctor Foster and we can’t wait to see him back on stage in what is sure to be another incredible performance. Get your tickets asap and you can check out a short interview with BERTIE and Richard Jones below:
