Set to make his directorial debut with John Galsworthy’s play Strife at Chichester Festival Theatre in August, our wonderful BERTIE CARVEL has given an insightful interview to WhatsOnStage.com about his decision to step into this new role, why he chose this particular play and how he’s found the process so far. Read the full interview here.
Strife is set in 1909 in a South Wales tinplate works where men are on strike and the community is close to breaking point. Although the men have stood firm behind their firebrand leader, the union has withdrawn its support and it is only a matter of time before the men do too.
More than a hundred years after it was first performed, Galsworthy’s rarely staged play offers a strikingly balanced account of the political spectrum and speaks with directness to our present moment – something which BERTIE discusses in more detail in the interview.
Strife opens at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre on 12th August and runs until 10th September. Get your tickets here.
