THE PIN Receives Writers’ Guild Nomination!

The shortlist for the annual Writers’ Guild Awards has been announced and huge congratulations go to HH clients BEN ASHENDEN and ALEXANDER OWEN – aka comedy duo THE PIN – who have been nominated in the Best Radio Comedy category, for writing their hit sketch show The Pin, in which they both also star.

The second series of the acclaimed comedy show aired on BBC Radio 4 earlier in the year. This latest Writers’ Guild nomination adds to an exciting list of award wins and nominations for The Pin and its two stars/writers: They were nominated for Best Entertainment Production at the 2016 Radio Academy Awards; they won the award for Best Comedy Production or Moment at the 2016 BBC Radio Awards and they have also recently been nominated for the Best Comedy With a Live Audience award at the 2017 BBC Audio Drama Awards.

The Writers’ Guild Awards will be announced and presented by comedian/actress Meera Syal on Monday 23 January 2017 at the Royal College of Physicians in central London.

Fingers crossed guys!

In Plain Sight is a new three-part mini-series cast by HH client KAHLEEN CRAWFORD and starring our very own MARTIN COMPSTON in the lead role.

The show is based on the true story of Lanarkshire detective William Muncie’s quest to bring to justice notorious Scottish killer Peter Manuel (played by MARTIN). Muncie first arrested Manuel in 1946 for housebreaking, but also successfully convicted him for a string of sexual assaults. Manuel vowed revenge. Released from prison in 1955, Manuel embarked on a two-year killing spree, claiming eight lives in the close-knit communities of South Lanarkshire.

Manuel evaded capture for so long because he was unlike anything the local police had ever encountered: A murderer without any discernible motive whose victims were chosen at random. Muncie was the one man who had Manuel’s measure and doggedly refused to give up until Manuel was brought to justice.

The gripping drama premieres next Wednesday 7th December at 9pm on ITV. Don’t miss it! Here’s the trailer:

Nocturnal Animals is the second feature film from writer/director Tom Ford and is a dark psychological thriller adapted (by Ford himself) from late American novelist Austin Wright’s 1993 book Tony and Susan. Adams and Gyllenhaal play dual roles as the once-married couple and as the protagonists in the novel-within-the-film, from which the film takes its name. AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON plays terrifying bad guy Ray, the leader of a gang hired to initiate the vengeful kidnapping. See our previous article Aaron’s NOCTURNAL ANIMALS Is A Smash! to read all the rave reviews he’s been receiving for his amazing performance in the film, which recently won the Silver Lion award at the 2016 Venice Film Festival. More Rave Reviews For TRACEY ULLMAN’S SHOW

The Boston Globe has this week written a glowing (and very well-deserved) review of TRACEY ULLMAN and her fantastic show Tracey Ullman’s Show, which aired in the UK earlier this year and which is now playing in the USA, Friday nights at 11pm on HBO.

TRACEY‘s wonderful portrayals of some of the UK’s most beloved ‘national treasures’, including Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has earned her much critical acclaim and admiration since airing in the UK at the start of the year. This week, The Boston Globe describes TRACEY as a “performer who inhabits characters to the point of magic. Ullman…deploys her skills in comic settings [with] the rare gift of thorough transformation. She’s a bit of a miracle, as far as I’m concerned, one of the best sketch artists alive today. She contains multitudes.”

The review continues: “I more than admire her, and place her among a group of paragons of comedy including Lily Tomlin, Imogene Coca, and Madeline Kahn: She knows how to invest her kooky characters with heart, vulnerability, and poignancy.”

The reviews are in for writer/director Tom Ford’s new film Nocturnal Animals, starring our wonderful AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON – and by all accounts, it’s an absolute smash!

Having won the Silver Lion award at last week’s Venice Film Festival, Ford’s second film (his follow up to 2009’s A Single Man) looks set to take the world by storm, receiving rave reviews across the board, especially for AARON and his incredible performance.

Nocturnal Animals is a dark psychological thriller adapted (by Ford himself) from late American novelist Austin Wright’s 1993 book Tony and Susan. It tells the story of an art gallery owner (played by Amy Adams) haunted by her ex-husband (Jake Gyllenhaal)’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a veiled threat against her and a symbolic revenge tale. Adams and Gyllenhaal play dual roles as the once-married couple and as the protagonists in the novel-within-the-film, from which the film takes its name. Michael Shannon, Isla Fisher and Laura Linney also star.

AARON plays terrifying bad guy Ray, the leader of a gang hired to initiate the vengeful kidnapping. Have a read below of all the wonderful praise being afforded to AARON on the strength of his performance in the film. Go AARON!

“The real standout is Taylor-Johnson, so effectively creepy as the ringleader of the novel’s miscreants…his unsettling charismatic turn here heralds a career turning point.”
– Alonso Duralde, The Wrap

“Ford’s most precious collaborator is Taylor-Johnson, who gives this movie a jolt of wild-eyed unpredictability.”
– Jeff Sneider, Mashable

“The leader of the gang is Ray, played in long black sideburns by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who gives this taunting sociopath a strange kind of depth”
– Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“…director Tom Ford pulled off a casting coup by turning [Aaron] into a bad guy. With a Texas drawl and goatee, he’s unrecognizable…It’s thrilling, and terrifying, to watch Taylor-Johnson’s descent into the dark side.”
– Ramin Setoodeh, Variety

“Two best things about ‘Nocturnal Animals:’ Aaron Taylor-Johnson (yes!) and a bewigged Laura Linney as Amy Adams’s Texas socialite mom.”
– Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair

“In the role of the villain, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is spellbinding…[he] crafts one of the year’s most frightening villains. His best work comes when pitted against Gyllenhaal, whose devastation expertly contrasts with Taylor-Johnson’s sense of devilish control.”
– Matt Hoffman, Film School Rejects

Nocturnal Animals will be released in UK cinemas on November 4 2016. Here’s the trailer:

Rave Reviews for Ben Daniels’ THE EXORCIST

In just over a week, the first episode of the highly-anticipated television remake of classic horror film The Exorcist will premiere on US channel FOX, starring HH client BEN DANIELS in the titular role. And very excitingly, the first reviews are glowing and full of praise for BEN and the show as a whole.

The Exorcist offers a modern reinvention of the classic horror franchise inspired by William Blatty’s original 1971 book, more than four decades after the Academy Award-nominated film solidified itself as the greatest horror movie ever made. Returning now in series format, the show is written by Jeremy Slater, directed by Rupert Wyatt and is a propulsive psychological thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession. Alfonso Herrera stars as Father Tomas Ortega – the warm, selfless and compassionate leader of a small but hearty little church; BEN stars as Father Marcus Lang – an intense ‘holy warrior’ carrying out an occupation that the church no longer acknowledges in public; and Geena Davis plays Angela Rance, the tormented mother of a possessed young girl.

According to this fantastic Variety review, the drama “does a truly impressive job” and the pilot episode gives “an exceptionally effective starting point” full of “meticulous choices [that] reinforce a quiet yet palpable sense of dread and foreboding”.

BEN receives similar praise: “The Exorcist needs actors who can easily transition between operatic scenarios and quieter moments of resignation and fear, and Daniels’ nimbleness in this regard is exceptional”. The review goes on to celebrate “his charisma and finely calibrated range”, naming BEN and co-star Geena Davis as “two very strong foundations”. Read the full review here. has also given a glowing review of BEN‘s work in the show, explaining why “his performance is going to make you a believer” and how he “has an ability to take control of every single project in which he appears…he doesn’t just sink his teeth into roles; he tears them apart.” Check out the full article here.

If you’re in America, tune in to FOX next Friday September 23 for the premiere. Until then, check out the trailer below (and prepare yourself for shivers as Mike Oldfield’s eery classic Tubular Bells – the theme from the original 1973 movie – kicks in at the end!)
